Gerald Irwin
Director of School Resources and Policy
Gerald Irwin brings 31 years of law enforcement experience, having served in a wide range of operational and leadership roles. He retired as a Captain from the Coral Springs Police Department in 2023 and relocated with his family to Lynchburg, Virginia, where he currently serves as Chief of Police at one of the largest Christian universities in the United States.
During his tenure as a Captain with the Coral Springs Police Department, Chief Irwin was part of a small command staff team responsible for analyzing the department’s response to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (Parkland) shooting and leading the organization through its aftermath. Through this work, he identified critical policies, training standards, and best practices that organizations can implement before, during, and after critical incidents, with a strong emphasis on prevention and liability mitigation.
Chief Irwin has presented these policies and practices nationwide to law enforcement agencies, colleges and universities, and emergency management associations. He partners with LionHeart to provide firsthand experience in preparing for active shooter and other critical incidents, developing sound policies, and delivering S‑A‑F‑E School training that saves lives while reducing organizational liability.
